An Introduction to Gore Makeup for the Stage

Interested in gore makeup? Want to know how to create a realistic bruise or how to stitch up a cut? This is the class for you! In the three hours, we will go over how to make fake bruises, cuts, and burns. We’ll learn what special effects products to use, as well as how to build each look from the base up. We’ll also have time at the end for each student to create their own gore design! Come ready for some blood and to get creative! 
This class will involve makeup, dyes, and chemicals. Please wear clothes that could be ruined.
This class may also involve working with Latex, if you have
any allergies please let us know so that we can structure the class appropriately.

Celia Konowe is from Reston, Virginia and has been active in the theatre community for most of her life. She began acting through Young Actors Theatre at RCC and continued at South Lakes High School, where she served as ITS President and Lead Cappies Critic. Her interest and work in theatrical makeup began here, serving as the department’s hair and makeup designer and taking stage makeup classes through Institute for the Arts. She graduated in 2022 from the University of Rochester with a minor in theatre performance and work experience in stage management, hair and makeup, and props. She is now completing a Master’s degree in Halifax, Nova Scotia, where she has continued to work with local community theatres in a variety of ways.
